CHOICE OF THREE SEMINARS |

Cutting-Edge Capital Project Definition, Planning, Scheduling and Execution
|

A major development has occurred in project management that not too many people are aware of. There is now an ANSI Standard on project management. It’s called the PMBOK, which stands for Project Management Body of Knowledge, written by the Project Management Institute, which assembled more than 100 of the best project managers in the world to write it. It truly is a masterpiece.

As the PMBOK says, to ensure a project’s success a written project plan that describes exactly how the project is to be initiated, scoped, executed, managed, and controlled is paramount. The PMBOK, of course, is a general, theoretical document that must be translated into whatever field of project management you are working in. That’s where this seminar comes in. In this seminar a translation of the PMBOK into four project plans using the terminology and documents of our industry will be presented: one for a small project, one for a medium-sized project, one for a large project, and one for a very large project. One of these project plans would fit any project. They contain no boiler plate, fill, or theoretical nonsense, only what really works. They address only those items necessary to have a well thought out project plan in accordance with the PMBOK: What contracts will be released? What will be the duties of the project manager, the project team, the design firm, the contractors? Who will specify and purchase equipment? Who will expedite? How will the project team scope the project? What documents must be generated to have a complete scope? How will communication take place between the project team and the rest of the plant? How will drawings be reviewed? How will the project be controlled and costs held in check? These are just some of the items addressed. Note though, that these items usually aren’t thoroughly addressed and usually cause problems down the road. No note taking will be necessary. All topics and tools discussed will be contained in files and spreadsheets distributed on a CD, including these four project plans. They can be used as is or modified to suit personal preferences. However, you can rest assured that by following these plans your projects will be initiated, scoped, executed, managed, and controlled with a method developed by the best project managers in the world.
Another topic discussed and left in spreadsheet form on the CD is the creation of a schedule based on the cost estimate, the type of project, and the project plan. This spreadsheet will work with a cost estimate of any level of detail, the more detailed, the more accurate the schedule. The spreadsheet also instructs how to perform an order-of-magnitude estimate for any project.
“Cutting Edge Capital Project Definition, Planning, Scheduling, and Execution,” is a three hour on-site presentation, costing only $999.00 (total cost: no additional expenses) for any location within 200 miles of central downtown Chicago (intersection of Madison & State), $1499 for over 200 but within 800 miles, and $1999 over 800 miles but in the lower 48. (Combine this seminar, same day or next, with “Cutting-Edge Capital Project Cost Control” for just $800 more at any location.) After this seminar you will never be at a loss for an approach to a project again. Planning and scheduling will move faster and be more complete than ever, trimming months off project schedules. However, the seminar won’t just consist of a lecture on theory with the expectation that you will be able to apply it after just one talk. As mentioned, a CD will be distributed with files and spreadsheets dealing with all topics discussed.
Your presenter, Glen Rosentrater, President and founder of CP Project Services, inc., author of this seminar, has spent his entire career in project management. He has an MS in Chemical Engineering from the University of Illinois at Chicago. He has spoken on project management related topics all over the country, speaking at local AICHE dinner meetings, presenting project management seminars, and, most recently, speaking at the 2008 AICHE Midwest Regional Conference on September 22. He has had several articles published in Chemical Engineering Progress dealing with various topics in Project Management, the latest, “How Will You Manage”, published in the July 2008 issue. He is also certified by the Project Management Institute (PMI) as a Project Management Professional (PMP).
